A Trade Gathering, a City’s Prosperity Unveiled – My Experience at the 28th Yiwu Fair
On the morning of November 24, 2022, a crisp chill hung in the air of Yiwu, yet it did little to dampen the bustling crowds surging toward the Yiwu International Expo Center. As a foreign trade professional rooted in Yiwu for years, i am Mr.aosiman tuohesun, stepped into the 28th China Yiwu International Small Commodities (Standards) Fair with great anticipation for business opportunities and curiosity about the latest industry trends. With the theme “New Starting Point, New Market, New Development”, this four-day event not only secured me concrete cooperation intentions but also deepened my understanding of Yiwu’s inclusiveness and vitality as the “World’s Supermarket”.
Stepping inside the exhibition hall, the 110,000 square meters of exhibition space showcased a dazzling array of products from 2,300 participating enterprises. The venue was divided into seven major industry zones covering hardware tools, electronic appliances, daily consumer goods, and several distinctive theme zones that left visitors spoilt for choice. I was first drawn to the theme pavilion celebrating the 40th anniversary of Yiwu Market’s development. Through holographic projections and virtual digital human technology, the contrast between the peddler’s rattle, early small commodity stalls, and today’s digital trade city vividly depicted Yiwu’s transformation from a “roadside market” to the “World Capital of Small Commodities”. In the “We Stand Together Through Thick and Thin” enterprise zone, the exhibition of 40 representative merchants comprehensively presented the complete ecosystem of “people, goods, venues, and supply chains” in Yiwu Market, evoking a deep sense of emotion as a witness to this journey.
The innovative highlights of this fair exceeded all expectations. The newly established New Energy Theme Zone was thronged with visitors, where leading photovoltaic enterprises such as Aiko Solar, Trina Solar, and Jinko Solar showcased their cutting-edge products. As a purchaser primarily serving the Central Asian market, I was acutely aware of the enormous local demand for solar energy products. I immediately engaged in in-depth discussions with representatives from two enterprises, gaining a detailed understanding of photovoltaic module technical parameters, supply cycles, and cooperation models. We exchanged contact information and initially reached an intention to purchase two containers of products. In the Standards Theme Pavilion, the display of officially licensed Qatar World Cup match balls caught my attention. This local Yiwu enterprise had not only obtained international authorization but also participated in formulating the “Zhejiang Made” standard, allowing me to witness the upgrading of “Yiwu Manufacturing” to “Yiwu Standards”.
In the Supply Chain Theme Zone, I experienced the continuous improvement of Yiwu’s trade services. The digital supply chain solutions presented by enterprises such as Yinghe Logistics and Alibaba were truly eye-opening. The upgrade from “port-to-port” to “door-to-door” one-stop services, which could complete the entire process from Yiwu to American consumers in just 13 days, was exactly the efficiency that foreign trade professionals needed most. After communicating with the person in charge of Zhejiang Tony Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., I learned that their “Tony Special Line” covered 95% of Indian companies purchasing in Yiwu. Their services such as cloud warehouse consignment and double clearance could effectively address the logistics pain points of small and medium-sized enterprises. I immediately decided to entrust them with the logistics of some of my procurement business.
The three offline negotiation sessions held during the fair provided a precise platform for purchasers and exhibitors to connect. At the overseas purchasers’ special session, I met old friends from countries such as Pakistan and Rwanda, and we exchanged procurement needs and market dynamics. I focused on the daily consumer goods and cultural office supplies zones, where an intelligent counting stationery set and eco-friendly craft gifts particularly impressed me. I finalized procurement details with two enterprises on the spot and signed intention orders. The online-offline integration model also invigorated the fair, with many exhibitors expanding sales channels through live streaming. I also browsed exhibits from over 300 enterprises through the online exhibition hall, reserving resources for future cooperation.
The four-day exhibition passed in the blink of an eye. Not only did I secure more than ten intention orders, but I also gained a clear insight into the development direction of Yiwu Market. From the rise of emerging fields such as new energy and digital supply chains, to quality upgrading led by the “Pinzi Biao” (Zhejiang Made) brand, and the new online-offline integrated trade model, Yiwu has always stood at the forefront of the global small commodities trade. As a foreign trade professional who has worked in Yiwu for many years, I have personally witnessed the city’s openness and innovation and benefited from the international platform it has built.
As I left the exhibition hall, the setting sun cast a warm glow over the Yiwu International Expo Center. The conclusion of the 28th Yiwu Fair was not an end, but the beginning of new cooperation. I firmly believe that under the guidance of the concept of “New Starting Point, New Market, New Development”, Yiwu will continue to write a new chapter in global trade. For my part, I will continue to root myself in this land of abundant opportunities, grow together with the city, and achieve greater success in the tide of international trade.
